The GUS Programmer's Digest Wednesday, 14 June 1995 Volume 20 : Number 008 Today's Topics: Simultaneous record/play looping problem RE: Simultaneous record/play looping problem Standard Info: - Meta-info about the GUS can be found at the end of the Digest. - Before you ask a question, please READ THE FAQ. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: houghton@WHIRL.SPEECH.CS.CMU.EDU Date: Tue, 13 Jun 95 15:27:28 EDT Subject: Simultaneous record/play looping problem With some help from Mike Lewis on the recording portion, last night I was able to successfully record and play simultaneously under Windows. However, the output of the DAC was fed into the input of the ADC. This makes my task impossible as I need to play a calibration tone and record the signal level at the microphone position. I have the reference sheets for the chipset and I know it is supposed to be possible to turn off this feature, however it is possible that Gravis hardwired this. (Why I don't know.) Before I purchased this card Gravis suggested that it was possible to turn this off, however I've seen several things from net folks that suggests in fact the opposite. Can any one confirm one or the other? I think it depends on which GUS you have, i.e. which mixer. With the MAX you can select the recording source in windows in the mixer program. Look under the control menu for recording source (or voice source). One can choose Line In, mic etc. The downside with this is that there is only the recording gain control to then control the input level (since it doesn't go through the mixer proper just the rec. mux) and this has produces some offset problems when gain!=0dB. I posted a "soothe" for this problem a few weeks back (didn't get any comments though). If you're using a standard GUS there are some mixer diagrams in the SDK to look at, my guess is the later versions should allow you to select a separate recording source rather than the default; output from the mixer. Also, you'll want to mute the Line In so that it doesn't go through the mixer too. BTW I'd be interested in the application of this... ...maybe some direct email?
